Kelly started practicing yoga when she was 12 years old, as a way to increase flexibility for her athletic endeavors. She was a devoted swimmer – practicing on three teams and competing on two. Outside of the swimming pool, Kelly had a hard time speaking up and making friends, but yoga offered her a space to move beyond her shyness. She attended her first Hot Vinyasa class in Washington, D.C. in 2007 and found that style resonated with her. Kelly’s husband started his GI/Hepatology fellowship at UVA, and she found HYC when the studio started offering Vinyasa.
What Kelly loves most about teaching is how it takes her deeper into her own experience of herself. Yoga has given her the opportunity to find her voice and connect to people up in front of a class. But, she also loves holding space for people to play and explore and discover exactly what they are capable of – to see that they can do the things that they believed were impossible – and from that new seeing, go into the world to do big things.
