I started practicing hot yoga, and yoga in general, to reduce stress and to cross train. I had a collegiate soccer career and when I graduated from college, I missed the intensity and camaraderie of team sports. When I found hot yoga, I felt the void of the intensity filled, but with the therapeutic benefits my body so desperately needed. I left the high paced lifestyle of Washington, DC, to open Hot Yoga Charlottesville in January 2004.
I love the notion that any new student walking through the doors may become a regular student and new friend. We experience so much growth and compassion together in the hot room that I feel drawn to the studio even when I’m tired. It is my happy place.
I spend every extra moment I have loving on my family. My husband and I have two children who are the focus and light of our lives. I also love to golf, fish and play in the rain.
Most people do not know that when I get home from the studio, despite my outgoing persona there, I like to sit quietly on my porch with my husband and watch the stars. The quieter, the better.
I wish for the world to feel that happiness, love and joy come from within. When we connect with those emotions as ourselves, we begin to see those qualities in others.
